Frequently Asked Questions
A: NWECS (NorthWest Emergency Communications Service) is a not
for profit service for public safety interested personnel who
wish to voluntarily assist others and the community. Assistance
in either providing, summoning, guiding, and reporting public
safety hazards, weather hazards, distress, or anything else that
involves getting help to someone(s) swiftly and safely.
Q: What services does NWECS provide? A: NWECS Subscribers are entitled to use of specific NWECS communications
systems (wireless radio repeater systems, email, paging, online
chat/conferencing, etc). This includes affiliatory agreements
with other similar organizations. The ability to use the system
to report emergencies and recieve help for either yourself or
others. In addition, information of public safety operations and
related emergencies within the listening area from our own subscribers
whom happen to catch the action live, or perhaps they are responding
as public safety personnel. NWECS is not a group of "BUFFS", it
is a service to inform it's subscribers and listening community
of current public safety events.
Q: Do I have to get a license? A: NWECS radio communications systems are on GMRS and Amateur radio frequencies. For questions about licensing contact a Supervisor or follow the link to License Info. on the menu.
